My Favourite UK Filming Locations

As a professional videographer, I've had the incredible opportunity to film video projects in some truly remarkable places across the country. From capturing the roar of a football stadium to filming a corporate leadership event in a historic castle, each location brings its own unique character and challenges. This post shares my absolute favourite filming locations in the UK, offering insights for clients and fellow video professionals.

Capturing the Energy: UK Football Stadiums

Filming professional sports and corporate events in high-profile football stadiums is a key area of my work. The architecture, history, and atmosphere provide an unmatched backdrop for dynamic video content.

Anfield Stadium, Liverpool & Deepdale Stadium, Preston

I gained early experience filming NHS Safeguarding conferences in the hospitality suites of these iconic grounds. My shoot at Anfield taught me a crucial lesson for event videography: avoid overshooting! At Deepdale, I applied this, becoming more intentional with my footage, which is vital for corporate event video production.

Hillsborough Stadium & Bramall Lane Stadium, Sheffield

I worked on a rewarding Lottery-funded community project here, documenting the elderly community’s sporting memories and memorabilia. Filming them at their local grounds created powerful, emotionally resonant video assets for the project.

Bet365 Stadium, Stoke

My work here was for a fascinating sports documentary, covering the history surrounding Stoke City’s League Cup win in 1972. Capturing this historical passion provides excellent B-roll footage for documentary filmmaking.

Large-Scale Events: Dynamic Filming Challenges

These projects demanded meticulous planning, quick decision-making, and the ability to capture dynamic action across vast spaces.

Filming White Water Rafting at Lee Valley, Hertfordshire

The project was a leadership retreat video, using the white water rafting as a metaphor for teamwork. The key challenge for filming sports action at the Lee Valley White Water Centre was the need for extreme organisation to capture different angles each time the fast-moving teams passed.

Commonwealth Games Opening Ceremony, Alexander Stadium, Birmingham

This was a monumental assignment focused on capturing photos and video footage of each nation's entrance and the main performance segments. The dynamic performance was the most awe-inspiring part, requiring rapid adjustments to capture the scale of this major UK event video.

Media City, Salford - Triathlon

I often film in this modern media hub, but my most memorable project was a challenging urban triathlon. The need for precise timing and logistical organisation to cover three different sports was immense, complicated by the highly unpredictable British weather.

Filming Local Business & Heritage

Cave Castle, South Cave & The Grove Resort, Hertfordshire

I filmed two- and three-day leadership events at these contrasting venues. The Grove offers a luxurious, modern setting, while Cave Castle’s historic architecture instantly adds gravitas and visual interest to a high-value corporate training video.

Northwich, Cheshire

This was an early, pivotal solo project—a promotional video for a local business that aimed to highlight the shop's unique aesthetic. The success of this shoot proved the importance of focusing on strong visual narrative over large budgets.

Hessle, Yorkshire

I filmed a large, bustling local town fair here. The crowded streets presented a common videographer challenge: being creative with movement to get the shots without obstructing the public. This is key for effective community event videography.

Hull, Yorkshire

I filmed a video based on an article that named it one of the coolest places to live in the UK. The vibrant colours and historical architecture of the Old Town made it the perfect backdrop to capture the city's unique essence for a lifestyle video production.

Preston, Lancashire

Having studied film at UCLan, the beautiful, tiered Avenham Park provided the scenic backdrop for many of my early videography projects. It’s a great example of a local, accessible spot for building a strong portfolio.
